Usually ready in 2 hoursAbout the Product: This is a Whiskey Library exclusive — a single barrel pulled from Rare Character's rotating inventory of aged American whiskeys and selected specifically for our shelves. At 11 years old and bottled at cask strength straight from the barrel, it represents exactly what Rare Character's Single Barrel Series is built for: giving a single, unblended barrel nowhere to hide, and letting age and provenance do the talking. Rare Character operates in the tradition of independent bottling long perfected in Scotland — sourcing barrels with distinct, unrepeatable character from distilleries across the country, then releasing them exactly as found. The barrel you're holding is one of a kind. When it's gone, it's gone.
About Rare Character: Rare Character Whiskey was founded in 2021 by Pablo Moix and Peter Nevenglosky — two spirits industry veterans who set out to bring independent bottling to American whiskey in a serious way. Moix, an acclaimed restaurateur and distilled spirits expert, spent over two decades purchasing single barrels for his own bars and restaurants, building direct relationships with distilleries that gave him access to barrels that had never been released to the public. Nevenglosky brought deep experience building spirits brands across the US and Europe. Together, they built Rare Character around a simple conviction: that American whiskey lovers were ready to be challenged by something they hadn't tasted before. With a vast rotating menu of sourced barrels spanning Kentucky, Indiana, Tennessee, and beyond — ranging from classic high-corn bourbons to experimental mashbills and rare rye expressions — Rare Character has quickly become one of the most talked-about names in American whiskey, with barrel codes that inspire the same kind of collector fervor once reserved for Willett single barrels.

What is Independent Bottling?: Independent bottling is a centuries-old tradition, most deeply rooted in Scotch whisky, where a company purchases barrels from distilleries — often ones that don't typically release their liquid under their own name — and bottles them as single barrels without blending or alteration. The distillery provides the spirit; the independent bottler provides the eye for quality and the platform to release it. In American whiskey, this model is still relatively new, but gaining fast momentum. It allows knowledgeable selectors to surface barrels with profiles that fall outside a distillery's standard release program — unusual ages, off-profile flavor developments, experimental mashbills — and put them directly in the hands of curious drinkers.
